Drinking straws – the next generation

To what length of complexity will plastic critics elevate a simple, everyday experience like drinking through a straw? Let’s investigate our options. We can choose a natural bamboo straw, which can be tossed away (literally) to decompose. We can choose an aluminum straw, but how will we keep it clean? Oh yes, it comes with its own little cleaning brush–which probably harbors bacteria, so let’s use disinfectant. We can keep all of our drinking straw supplies in a pencil-type pouch, which creates its own recycling issue. And how will we eventually dispose of the cleaning brush?
